ਓਟਾਵਾ: ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਰਨਾਰਥੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਨਵੇਂ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਨਿਯਮ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਝਟਕਾ ਲੱਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਹੋਏ Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA) ਦੇ ਵਾਧੇ ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਹੁਣ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਗੈਰ-ਰਸਮੀ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਰਹੱਦ ਪਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਲੋਕ Roxham Road ਵਰਗੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਲਈ ਅਰਜ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਸਕਦੇ ਸਨ, ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਇਹ ਰਸਤਾ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਵੱਧ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਅਰਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਹਾਇਸ਼, ਸ਼ੈਲਟਰ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪੈ ਰਹੇ ਦਬਾਅ ਨੂੰ ਘਟਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਰਨਾਰਥੀਆਂ (asylum seekers) ਲਈ ਨਵੇਂ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਨਿਯਮ ਲਾਗੂ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ, ਖ਼ਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਜੋ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
Ottawa: The government of Canada has announced stricter measures on asylum seekers, delivering a significant setback to migrants entering the country, particularly through the United States.
Under the expanded Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA) between Canada and the United States, asylum seekers crossing the border through irregular routes will now be turned back. Previously, migrants could enter through unofficial crossings such as Roxham Road and still apply for refugee protection, but the new rules close this pathway.
Canadian authorities say the move is aimed at managing the increasing number of asylum claims and easing pressure on housing, shelters, and public services. Officials argue that the system had become overwhelmed due to a surge in migrants arriving via the U.S.
However, human rights groups and immigration advocates have strongly criticized the decision. They warn that the policy could put vulnerable individuals at risk by forcing them to take more dangerous routes or leaving them stranded without protection.
