Retired Sikh Teacher Donates Land to Restore Muslim Graveyard Access
In a remarkable gesture of interfaith solidarity, Pushvinder Singh, a retired Sikh teacher and social activist from Sehmu village in Tral, Kashmir, donated part of his land to restore access to a Muslim graveyard that had been inaccessible for nearly four years.

ਸ਼ੇਖ ਮੇਲਾ ਸਹਿਮੂ ਬਾਰਾ ਨਾਮਕ ਕਬਰਸਤਾਨ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਲਗਭਗ ਚਾਰ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬੰਦ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪਰੇਸ਼ਾਨੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਪੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਦੀ ਅਦਲਾ-ਬਦਲੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਛੇ ਫੁੱਟ ਚੌੜਾ ਅਤੇ ਨੱਬੇ ਫੁੱਟ ਲੰਮਾ ਰਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
3 ਮਈ 2025 ਨੂੰ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਈ ਇਸ ਖਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਸਲਿਮ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਦੀਆਂ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਕ ਜੁੜਤ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ “ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾ ਤੋੜੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ” ਬੰਧਨ ਦੱਸਿਆ।
The graveyard, known as Sheikh Mela Sehmu Barra, was cut off due to a blocked route, causing significant distress for local residents during funeral processions. Singh facilitated a land exchange, providing a six-foot-wide, ninety-foot-long path to ensure access.
This act, reported on May 3, 2025, has been widely praised as a symbol of the deep-rooted brotherhood between Sikh and Muslim communities in the region, with locals emphasizing that “no force can break” their centuries-old bond.
