Punjab Police attempted to arrest Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from the Sanour constituency in Patiala, at the residence of his relative, Gurnam Singh Laadi, a member of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC), in Dabri village, Karnal, Haryana. The police action was in connection with a rape case filed against him on August 26, 2025, based on a complaint by a Zirakpur resident alleging sexual exploitation under the pretext of marriage. ਇਸ ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਬਹਾਨੇ ਇਹ ਹੜਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਿਰ ਸ਼ਿਫਟ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਕੀ ਇਹ ਸਿਰਫ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਰਵਨੀਤ ਬਿੱਟੂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚਲੇ ਹੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸੂਬੇ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਦੱਸਦਿਆਂ, ਹਰਿਆਣਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਰੀ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਬਾਅਦ ਪਠਾਣਮਾਜਰਾ ਦਲੇਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਟਰੋਲ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੱਚ ਬੋਲਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਬਹਾਨੇ ਹੜਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ‘ਤੇ ਪਾਉਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ?

ਕਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੁਟੇਰੇ ਮਾਫੀਆ ਦੀ ਅਖੌਤੀ ਬਗਾਵਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਹੀਰੋ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਉਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ।
ਇੱਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਧਾੜਵੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚਲੇ ਕਰਿੰਦਿਆਂ ‘ਤੇ ਨਿਗ੍ਹਾ ਰੱਖੋ ਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੈਠੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਵੱਡੇ ਧਾੜਵੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹੋ। ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਠੱਗ ਹੀ ਵੱਡੇ ਧਾੜਵੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਦ ਬਣਦੇ ਨੇ।

Pathanmajra reportedly escaped police custody during the transfer to a local police station. According to sources, he and his associates allegedly opened fire on the police, injuring one officer, and fled in a white SUV, possibly a Scorpio, with some reports mentioning a Fortuner vehicle being seized along with three pistols. Villagers and supporters are said to have aided his escape, with some pelting stones at the police.

The incident followed Pathanmajra’s public criticism of the AAP government and its Delhi leadership over flood management issues in Punjab, particularly the handling of the Tangri and Ghaggar rivers. He had accused senior officials, including Water Resources Principal Secretary Krishan Kumar, of negligence, which he claimed worsened the flood situation in his constituency. On September 1, 2025, his security cover was withdrawn, and all Station House Officers (SHOs) and police post heads in Sanour were transferred, actions he alleged were retaliatory.
Before his escape, Pathanmajra went live on Facebook, claiming the rape case was politically motivated to silence his dissent against the AAP’s Delhi leadership. He urged fellow MLAs to resist interference from the party’s central command and called for supporters to protest at the Patiala district police chief’s office. His lawyer, Advocate Simranjeet Singh Saggu, also stated that the case was under investigation by the DIG Ropar Range as per a Punjab and Haryana High Court order, questioning the legality of the fresh FIR.
Punjab Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend Pathanmajra, who remains at large, and have filed a complaint with Karnal’s Sadar police for firing and disruption of duty. Security has been tightened in Patiala amid concerns of protests by his supporters. An additional FIR is expected to be registered for assaulting and injuring a police officer.
The incident has sparked political controversy, with opposition leaders and some posts on X suggesting it reflects internal rifts within AAP and questioning the motives behind the police action. However, these claims remain unverified, and no official statement from Punjab Police has been detailed in the sources beyond confirming the escape and ongoing efforts to recapture the MLA.
