Mohali: In a major update in the more than a decade-old 2007 Moga sex scandal case, the Special CBI Court in Mohali delivered its verdict against the four former police officials found guilty.
The court sentenced all four to five years of imprisonment each, along with a fine of ₹2 lakh per person. Furthermore, Raman Kumar, the former SHO of Moga, was given an additional three-year prison term and a separate fine of ₹1 lakh for extortion under Section 384 of the IPC.

Background: As per the challan, two women including a juvenile and Manjit Kaur, in connivance with the police officers and Barjinder extorted money from influential people by threatening to frame them in sexual abuse cases if they refused to pay up. Several prominent businessmen of Moga were blackmailed.
The case came to light when on June 7, 2007, Ranjit Singh of Bhagike village in Moga complained to the additional director general of police (law and order), alleging that the then SHO Amarjit Singh demanded a bribe of ₹50,000 from him over the phone and threatened that in case of non-payment, his name would be included in a rape case registered on the complaint of Manpreet Kaur.

Moga Sex Scandal ਮੁਹਾਲੀ ਦੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸੀਬੀਆਈ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਚਰਚਿਤ ਮੋਗਾ ਸੈਕਸ ਸਕੈਂਡਲ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਭ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਜਬਰੀ ਵਸੂਲੀ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੋਗਾ ਦੇ ਤਤਕਾਲੀ ਐੱਸਐੱਸਪੀ ਦਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਰਚਾ, ਤਤਕਾਲੀ ਐੱਸਪੀ (ਐੱਚ) ਪਰਮਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੰਧੂ ਸਮੇਤ ਮੋਗਾ ਸਿਟੀ ਥਾਣੇ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਐੱਸਐੱਚਓਜ਼ ਰਮਨ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਇੰਸਪੈਕਟਰ ਅਮਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਜ 5-5 ਸਾਲ ਕੈਦ ਅਤੇ 2-2 ਲੱਖ ਰੁਪਏ ਜੁਰਮਾਨੇ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਹੈ। ਉਪਰੋਕਤ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਅਫ਼ਸਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਜਬਰੀ ਵਸੂਲੀ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾਮਜ਼ਦ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਜਥੇਦਾਰ ਤੋਤਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਉਰਫ਼ ਮੱਖਣ ਬਰਾੜ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖਰਾਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਛਲੀ ਤਰੀਕ ’ਤੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਰੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਜਦੋਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਮਹਿਲਾ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮ ਮਨਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਕੇਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਣਵਾਈ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਤੇ ਹਰਿਆਣਾ ਹਾਈ ਕੋਰਟ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਸੀਬੀਆਈ ਨੇ 11 ਦਸੰਬਰ 2007 ਨੂੰ ਪਰਚਾ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।
