The scheme began in early September 2023.
Kaushik and co-conspirators purchased aerospace goods (including an Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) — a navigation and flight control device with dual civilian/military uses) from U.S. suppliers, falsely claiming they were for his Indian company (Arezo Aviation, an air charter services provider in New Delhi) and civilian use (e.g., a helicopter).
In reality, the items were intended for Russian buyers, including sanctioned entities.
One AHRS unit was detained by U.S. authorities before export.
Kaushik routed items through India to circumvent export licenses required for Russia.
Prosecutors described it as a “calculated, profit-driven scheme” with repeated transactions, substantial gains, and coordination with foreign co-conspirators, undermining U.S. national security and foreign policy.
U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford emphasized Kaushik prioritized personal gain over safeguards.
Arrested in Miami, Florida, on October 17, 2024.
Indicted November 20, 2024, on three counts (conspiracy, attempted export violation, false statements).
Pleaded guilty October 9, 2025, to the conspiracy count.
Sentenced January 15, 2026, by U.S. District Judge Karin J. Immergut.
