ਡਾ. ਨੇਹਾ ਗੁਪਤਾ, 36 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਮੂਲ ਦੀ ਬਾਲ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਜਞ, ਨੂੰ 30 ਜੂਨ, 2025 ਨੂੰ ਓਕਲਾਹੋਮਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ 4 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਧੀ, ਆਰੀਆ ਤਲਠੀ, ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਦਰਜੇ ਦੇ ਕਤਲ ਦਾ ਮੁਕਦਮਾ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੀ ਦਾ ਗੁਆਂਢ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਫਲੋਰੀਡਾ ਦੇ ਐਲ ਪੋਰਟਲ ਵਿੱਚ 27 ਜੂਨ, 2025 ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਸਵਿਮਿੰਗ ਪੂਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੁਰਘਟਨਾ ਵਜੋਂ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ। ਪੋਸਟਮਾਰਟਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਕਿ ਆਰੀਆ ਦੇ ਫੇਫੜਿਆਂ ਜਾਂ ਪੇਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ,

Dr. Neha Gupta, a 36-year-old Indian-origin pediatrician from Oklahoma, was arrested on June 30, 2025, and charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 4-year-old daughter, Aria Talathi, in El Portal, Florida. Authorities allege Gupta smothered her daughter and staged the scene to appear as an accidental drowning in a swimming pool at a short-term rental home on June 27, 2025. An autopsy revealed no water in Aria’s lungs or stomach, ruling out drowning, and found injuries consistent with asphyxiation by smothering, such as cuts inside the mouth and bruising on the cheeks. The medical examiner concluded Aria was dead before being placed in the pool. Gupta claimed she found her daughter unresponsive in the pool after waking up around 3:20 a.m., but inconsistencies, including an empty stomach contradicting her claim of a recent dinner, raised suspicions. Gupta and her ex-husband, Dr. Saurabh Talathi, were in a custody battle, and he was unaware Aria was in Florida. Gupta, who was fired from OU Health on May 30, 2025, was arrested in Oklahoma City and awaits extradition to Miami-Dade County. Her lawyer has called the charges “absurd.”
