Chandigarh, June 27, 2025: In a major development in the ongoing investigation into Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia’s alleged involvement in a drugs money laundering case, former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Siddharth Chattopadhyaya has recorded his statement, asserting that political power was exploited to facilitate drug trafficking in the state.
“This is a drug matter. Power was misused to sell drugs. Proceeds were generated through these channels. All of this must be exposed,” Chattopadhyaya said while speaking to the media.
He stressed that the drug trade in Punjab is deeply embedded in multiple layers of influence and authority. “There are numerous power channels through which drugs are being sold in Punjab. Unless there’s a powerful crackdown, this won’t stop,” he warned.
Former DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyaya says In 2012, we had solid evidence against Bikram Singh Majitha but the action was not taken against him as the Govt was of Akali Dal. In 2021 FIR registered against Majithia, I came to the vigilance office to brief & assist the case. Further, Chattopadhyaya says 100% proof against Majithia, will surely come in the Public domain.
Former Punjab DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyaya has agreed to record his statement with the Vigilance Bureau, which summoned him in connection with the ongoing investigation. Chattopadhyaya, who initiated the probe against Bikram Majithia during his tenure, is expected to make significant disclosures regarding alleged drug trade links. The statement will be recorded today at 2 PM at the Punjab Police Officers Institute, Chandigarh.
