ਬੀਤੇ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਜੁਲਾਈ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਤਿੰਨ ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਅਗਵਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਭੱਜੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਬੀਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਟਰਾਂਟੋ ਹਵਾਈ ਅੱਡੇ ਤੇ ਉਤਰਦਿਆਂ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਨੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਕਪਿਲ ਸੂਨਕ (48) ਅਤੇ ਕੈਮਿਲਾ ਵਿਲਾਸ ਦਾ ਕਈ ਸਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਿਆਹ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ ਜਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਵੈਲਿਨਟੈਨੋ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਦੋ ਸਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਆਹੁਤਾ ਸਬੰਧ ਵਿਗੜ ਗਏ ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੇਸ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਤੱਕ ਬੱਚਾ ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਪੁਰਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇ ਸੂਨਕ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਪਬੰਦੀ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ।
ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸੂਨਕ ਨੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਾਲ ਜੁਲਾਈ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੇਅਰ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਤੋਂ ਅਗਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ। ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਜਨਵਰੀ ਕੈਮਿਲਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਲਈ ਭਾਰਤ ਆਈ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਹਰਿਆਣਾ ਹਾਈ ਕੋਰਟ ਵਿਚ ਕੇਸ ਕਰਨ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਬੱਚਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਸਟਡੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਾਪਸ ਆਈ।ਉਧਰ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸੂਨਕ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਅਗਵਾ ਦਾ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਬੀਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਵਾਪਸ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਬਾਰਡਰ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਏਜੰਸੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
Kapil Sunak, a 48-year-old man from Durham Region, Ontario, was involved in a parental abduction case in Canada. In July 2024, he traveled to Delhi, India, with his three-year-old son, Valentino, under a court-sanctioned trip but failed to return by the court-ordered date of August 8, 2024, violating a custody order. A Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of abduction by parent/custody order. Sunak allegedly sold his house, car, and other assets in Canada, suggesting he had no intention of returning.
The child’s mother, Camila Vilas Boas, traveled to India’s Chandigarh region in January 2025 to locate her son. On April 22, 2025, an Indian high court ordered Sunak to return Valentino to Boas and issued a repatriation order to Canada. However, Sunak briefly re-abducted the child, who was later recovered by Indian police. Boas and Valentino returned to Canada on May 29, 2025, after India’s Supreme Court rejected Sunak’s appeal.
Sunak was arrested by the Canada Border Services Agency at Toronto Pearson International Airport on June 10, 2025, upon his return to Canada. He was charged with abduction of a child under 14 years in contravention of a court order and appeared in court on June 11, 2025
