ਨਿਊ ਵੈਸਟਮਿੰਸਟਰ (ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ), 15 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 2026 : ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਰਚਿਤ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਰੇਡੀਓ ਮੀਡੀਆਕਾਰ ਸੁਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਸੰਘਾ (47 ਸਾਲ) ਨੂੰ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਤੋਂ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿੱਚ 108 ਕਿਲੋਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲਾ ਨਸ਼ਾ (ਮੈਥਾਮਫੈਟਾਮੀਨ) ਸਮੱਗਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੇਠ ਬੀ.ਸੀ. ਸੁਪਰੀਮ ਕੋਰਟ ਨੇ ਸਾਢੇ ਪੰਜ ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਕੈਦ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਹੈ।
ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ 2024 ਵਿਚ ਗੈਰ-ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਇਮਪੋਰਟੇਸ਼ਨ (unlawful importation) ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਕਬੂਲ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ। ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਝੂਠੀ ਬਿਆਨਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਸਮੱਗਲਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਧਮਕੀ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਸੀ।
ਬੀ.ਸੀ. ਸੁਪਰੀਮ ਕੋਰਟ ਦੇ ਜੱਜ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਬਿਆਨ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠਾ ਐਲਾਨਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਟੈਕਸਟ ਮੈਸੇਜ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਬੂਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੰਘਾ ਇਸ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਤਸਕਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਭਰੋਸੇਯੋਗ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਛੁਕ ਭਾਗੀਦਾਰ ਸੀ।
ਘਟਨਾ 21 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 2021 ਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸੁਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਸੰਘਾ ਇੱਕ ਕਿਰਾਏ ਦੀ ਗੱਡੀ (ਫਲੋਰੀਡਾ ਨੰਬਰ ਪਲੇਟ ਵਾਲੀ) ਵਿਚ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਤੋਂ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਾਪਸ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ। ਬਾਰਡਰ ਤੇ ਇਮੀਗ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਅਫਸਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਅੰਟੀ ਦੀ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਯਾਤਰਾ (ਫਿਊਨਰਲ) ਲਈ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਗਈ ਸੀ।
ਜਦੋਂ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਗੱਡੀ ਦੀ ਚੈੱਕਿੰਗ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੱਡੀ ਭਜਾ ਲਈ। ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਗੱਡੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ 108 ਕਿਲੋਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਮੈਥ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਹੋਇਆ। ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਜ਼ਾ 10 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 2026 ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ।

New Westminster, British Columbia – April 15, 2026: A well-known Punjabi radio broadcaster, Sukhwinder Kaur Sangha (47), has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison by the B.C. Supreme Court after being convicted of smuggling 108 kilograms of methamphetamine into Canada from the United States.
Sangha pleaded guilty in 2024 to unlawful importation. However, during court proceedings, she attempted to mislead the court by claiming that she had been forced into the crime under death threats from smugglers. The judge rejected her statement as false, citing text messages and other evidence that demonstrated she was a trusted and willing participant in the drug trafficking operation.
The incident dates back to October 21, 2021, when Sangha was returning to Canada from the U.S. in a rented vehicle with Florida license plates. At the border, she told immigration officers that she had traveled to attend her aunt’s funeral. When officers requested to inspect the vehicle, she fled the scene.
Authorities later arrested her in Surrey, where a total of 108 kilograms of methamphetamine was recovered from the vehicle.
The sentence was officially handed down on April 10, 2026.
