Surrey Police are investigating a late-night shooting that occurred on Saturday at Reflection Banquet Hall, located at 153 Street and 66 Avenue.
A house associated with one of the owners of the hall was also previously targeted in a separate shooting incident. That investigation has so far not yielded any results.
One of the hall’s owners, Satish Kumar, told me today that he had received a ransom demand of two million dollars and was threatened that if he didn’t comply, both he and his son would be killed.
He said, “I told them we are not the kind to be intimidated — and then they carried out the attack at 3 a.m.”
He further added, “If people don’t come together, this won’t stop. One by one, everyone’s turn will come.”

ਇਸ ਹਾਲ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਾਲਕ ਸਤੀਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਦੇ ਬੇਟੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਇੱਕ ਘਰ ‘ਤੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵੀ ਦਸੰਬਰ 2023 ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਚੱਲ ਚੁੱਕੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਜਾਂਚ ‘ਚੋਂ ਵੀ ਹਾਲੇ ਤੱਕ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਕਲਿਆ। ਵੈਸੇ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਫਿਰੌਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ, ਲੋਕਲ ਲੜਾਈ ਸੀ।
ਹਾਲ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਾਲਕ ਸਤੀਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ ਅੱਜ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਦੋ ਮਿਲੀਅਨ ਡਾਲਰ ਦੀ ਫਿਰੌਤੀ ਮੰਗੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਧਮਕੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਬੇਟੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਇਹੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਡਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇਰ ਰਾਤ 3 ਵਜੇ ਇਹ ਕਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਲੋਕ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਨਾ ਹੋਏ ਤਾਂ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਨੀ, ਇੱਕ ਇੱਕ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਆਉਣੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦੀ ਕਾਰਗੁਜ਼ਾਰੀ ‘ਤੇ ਬੇਹੱਦ ਨਿਰਾਸ਼ਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਈ।
