Sikh Chess International Master:: ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਲ ਹੀ ’ਚ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਤੋਂ ਇਕ ਨਵਾਂ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਮਾਸਟਰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ। 16 ਸਾਲ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਮਾਸਟਰ ਹੈ।
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦੁਬਈ ਓਪਨ 2025 ’ਚ ਜਿੱਤ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਮੁਕਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਹ ਰਸਤਾ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਆਸਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਦਬਾਅ ਅਤੇ ਵਿੱਤੀ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਹ ਮੁਕਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਚੀਜ਼ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗੇ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਉਹ ਸੀ ਖੇਡ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਸਮਰਥਨ। ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਵਾਰ-ਵਾਰ ਭਾਰਤ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਵਿਚ 2022 ਵਿਚ ਪਛਮੀ ਏਸ਼ੀਆ ਯੂਥ ਸ਼ਤਰੰਜ ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨਸ਼ਿਪ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਤਿਹਰਾ ਸੋਨ ਤਮਗਾ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੈ। ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੇ ਇਸ 16 ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਤਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ 4 ਜੂਨ 2025 ਨੂੰ ਅਪਣੇ ਫੇਸਬੁੱਕ ਪੇਜ ’ਤੇ ਇਹ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕੀਤੀ।
Sahib Singh, a 16-year-old from New Delhi, is recognized as the first Sikh to earn the International Master (IM) title in chess. He achieved this milestone by securing his final IM norm at the Dubai Open 2025, following earlier norms at the Rudar GM Tournament in Serbia (November 2023) and the Piraeus GM Tournament in Greece (May 2024). His chess journey began at age seven, sparked by watching his father and brother play, and was nurtured by his school coach, Arbaaz Singh,
and strong family support, particularly from his father, Tajinder Singh. Sahib’s notable achievements include a triple gold finish at the Western Asia Youth Chess Championship in 2022 across classical, rapid, and blitz formats. With a FIDE rating of 2416 (standard), he is now aiming for the Grandmaster title. His success has been celebrated as an inspiration for the Sikh community and Indian chess.
