ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੀਨਗਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਸ਼ਤਾਬਦੀ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿਵਾਦ ’ਤੇ ਗਾਇਕ ਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਵਿਵਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਦਾ ਵੇਖ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਮਾਫੀ ਮੰਗ ਲਈ ਹੈ। ਗਾਇਕ ਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਵੀਡੀਉ ਜਾਰੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਆਸਟ੍ਰੇਲੀਆ ਤੋਂ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਸ੍ਰੀਨਗਰ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੈਨੇਜਮੈਂਟ ਦੀ ਗ਼ਲਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਵੇਰਵਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।
ਗਾਇਕ ਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਕੁੱਝ ਕਸ਼ਮੀਰੀ ਸੱਜਣਾ ਨੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਝ ਇਵੇਂ ਦਾ ਗਾਣਾ ਵੀ ਸੁਣਾਉ। ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਸਟੇਜ ‘ਤੇ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਬੈਨਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ,ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗਾਇਕ ਦਾ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਦਰਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਅਣਗਹਿਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸਟੇਜ ‘ਤੇ ਚੜਨ ਲੱਗਿਆ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਦਰਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਹੀ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਕੁੱਝ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਰੁਕਵਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰ ਢਕਣ ਅਤੇ ਜੋੜੇ ਲਵਾ ਕੇ ਸਲੋਕ ਮਹੱਲਾ ਨੌਵਾਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਰਿਆਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਲਿਖਤੀ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟੀਕਰਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜਥੇਦਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਣਗ਼ਹਿਲੀ ਕਾਰਨ ਗ਼ਲਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੀ ਜੋ ਵੀ ਬਣਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲੱਗੇਗੀ, ਮੈਂ ਭੁਗਤਣ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਅੱਜ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਪੇਸ਼ ਹੋਵਾਂਗਾ।
ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਹਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਧਾਮੀ ਨੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਇਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੀਨਗਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ਼ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ 350ਸਾਲਾ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਸ਼ਤਾਬਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਨੱਚ-ਟੱਪ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਮਨੋਰੰਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੀ ਮਰਿਆਦਾ ਦੀ ਉਲੰਘਣਾ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ, ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਦੇ ਸੰਕਲਪ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਰਿਆਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰਧਾਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰੀ ਠੇਸ ਵੱਜੀ ਹੈ।
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly condemned the entertainment performances involving singing and dancing organized during an event held by the Punjab Government’s Language Department in Srinagar, commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Teg Bahadar.
He said that the manner in which the event was conducted went against the sanctity of Guru’s supreme sacrifice and was a direct affront to Sikh religious values and the core philosophy of Sri Guru Teg Bahadar. He stated that the presentation at the government’s event struck a blow to both the concept of martyrdom and the revered Sikh code of conduct (Gurmat Maryada).
Violation of protocol during the Language Department’s event marking Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib’s Martyrdom Centenary deeply hurtful – SGPC President Adv. Dhami reiterates that holding religious centenary events is not the government’s responsibility and demands a public apology from the Punjab Government for this serious negligence.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami strongly condemned the Punjab Government’s Language Department for organizing entertainment performances, including dancing and singing, during a seminar held in Srinagar dedicated to the 350th Martyrdom Centenary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. Advocate Dhami stated that such performances at a government-organized event gravely hurt sentiments associated with the sacred martyrdom of Guru Sahib and severely damaged Gurmat principles and ideology.
Advocate Dhami further emphasized that Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s martyrdom holds unparalleled significance in world religious history. Therefore, every event commemorating his martyrdom must strictly adhere to Sikh traditions and should embody respect, solemnity, and reverence toward Gurbani. However, the Language Department of the Punjab Government turned the event into an entertainment spectacle, deeply hurting Sikh sentiments.
He noted that the SGPC has consistently clarified that centenary events and Gurpurab celebrations related to the Guru Sahibs should exclusively be managed by Sikh institutions, as governments and official departments often find it difficult to correctly uphold Gurmat protocols. The recent action of Punjab’s Language Department has confirmed the concerns already expressed by the SGPC. Advocate Dhami urged the Chief Minister to immediately acknowledge this and limit government responsibilities strictly to developmental activities.
Advocate Dhami stressed that Sikh Gurpurabs are not ordinary celebrations or entertainment festivals; rather, they are spiritual occasions dedicated to Gurmat principles, encompassing sacred activities such as Shabad Kirtan, Gurmat contemplation, Gurbani recitation, Sewa (selfless service), and Simran (meditation). Dancing, music, or entertainment performances at such events violate Gurmat principles and constitute disrespect toward Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib’s martyrdom.
Advocate Dhami demanded a public apology from the Punjab Government for this serious negligence and urged it to issue clear and strict guidelines to prevent such incidents in the future. He asserted that the Sikh community would never tolerate any disrespect toward the sacred traditions of the Sikh faith and the sanctity of the Guru Sahibs.
Punjabi singer Bir Singh apologized for the mistake that happened recently in Srinagar, where he sang Punjabi songs during a program commemorating the 350th Martyrdom Centenary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji.
Bir Singh said that throughout his singing career, he has always sung clean and respectful songs. He also mentioned that he had come directly from Australia to Srinagar, and upon reaching there, his phone network and other services stopped working. The biggest mistake, he admitted, was on the part of his management team, who did not provide him with the correct details about this program.
Earlier, they had done some commercial programs with the Punjabi Sahit Academy, and based on the same format of those programs, they started this one as well.
“I went straight to the stage, and since my entire attention was on the audience, I did not notice the banner displayed at the back of the stage. This was my mistake, and I should have gathered complete details about what the program was about before performing,” he said.
When they realized they were making a very big mistake that this program was actually dedicated to the Martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib they immediately acknowledged their fault, apologized to the sangat, removed their shoes, and recited Salok Mahalla 9.
Bir Singh further said, “I accept this mistake of mine. I have dismissed that management team and will never work with them again in the future. Moreover, for any future programs dedicated to Guru Sahib’s history, we will ensure proper decorum is maintained.”
He humbly requested the Akal Takht Sahib, Jathedar Sahib, and the entire Sikh community to forgive him for this mistake. “Whatever service you consider appropriate, I am ready to accept,” he added. “I am a humble Sikh, and I believe the Guru Sahib and the Sikh sangat are forgiving. Such mistakes will never happen again in the future,” he concluded.
